The song originates from a poll [[Neil]] held on his LiveJournal page the day prior, in which he gave 15 potential song titles and asked which ones his fans would like to hear the most. It won with 10.8% of the vote, barely beating out [[Elvis Porn]], the title at second place with 10.6% of the vote.<ref>https://trapezzoid.livejournal.com/36905.html</ref> It was written, recorded, and released only about 19 hours after the opening of the poll.<ref>https://trapezzoid.livejournal.com/2004/08/</ref> None of the other 13 titles ever became songs.

In [[Damn Skippy: Commentary|the album's commentary track]], [[Neil]] stated that although he owned many cats, that they act nice and not like the one portrayed in the song.
