This song gets suddenly quite existential after a silly first verse, contemplating the creation of the universe and the idea of self-worth. [[Neil]]'s words in the commentary suggest he was just randomly thinking of lyrics for the rest of the song, and the real meaning of the song was hidden in the act of staring at the ceiling. This is quite odd for a [[Lemon Demon]] song, but then again, all [[Lemon Demon]] songs are odd.

Description

Neil spoke about the song's meaning in the album's commentary track:

"This song’s about ceilings. When I was young, I always used to like look at the ceilings in my parent’s room and we used to make a game of trying to see stuff in the swirly patterns on the ceiling. We still play it, actually. Well, I play it all alone now, ‘cause nobody likes me."

This song gets suddenly quite existential after a silly first verse, contemplating the creation of the universe and the idea of self-worth. Neil's words in the commentary suggest he was just randomly thinking of lyrics for the rest of the song, and the real meaning of the song was hidden in the act of staring at the ceiling. This is quite odd for a Lemon Demon song, but then again, all Lemon Demon songs are odd.

Lyrics

When did my room get a ceiling?
I’ve never seen it before.
That’s what I get for devoting
All of my time to the floor.

Sit down, you walking disaster.
Look up and ask yourself,
“What can I see in the plaster?”

Step out and look where the stars are,
While falling back in the snow.
Some constellations are charming
From the perspective we know.

I’d like to hop on a space ride,
Exit the universe,
See how it looks from the outside.
