History

It was originally intended to be the first track on the album as an instrumental opener (paralleling View-Monster, Clown Circus, and Live from the Haunted Candle Shop), but was later removed the main track list sometime during the album's development and released as a separate single on June 30th, 2015. It was then added onto the bonus tracks for the album when it released. Neil stated in the Spirit Phone Commentary:

"Kubrick and the Beast was supposed to be the opening track for Spirit Phone at one point, but the album’s tone ended up going in another direction… and I had to break it to myself gently."

Fittingly, the song was originally meant to start the album, but instead now ends the album.
